Mayor

Milan Turk was born on 8th February 1969 in Šempeter pri Gorici. He gained his Batchelor's degree at the Faculty of Electrotechnics in Ljubljana and later in 1997, at the same faculty, he finished his postgraduate studies and gained his Master's.

In 1997 he set up his own company, where he worked in Informatics and later branched out into the production and effective use of energy from renewable sources. He gave up his position in the company in 2010 when he was elected as mayor, a role he undertakes professionally.

Milan Turk has been actively involved in politics ever since his student days. He was elected to serve on the Šempeter civil parish council in 1996. During this mandate as a member of the council, he actively strove together with the Vrtojba civil parish council to launch proceedings to create the joint municipality of Šempeter-Vrtojba. At the first elections, he was elected as a member of the municipal council Šempeter-Vrtojba. He served in this position for twelve years until October 2010, when he won the elections for mayor. In addition, he was a member of the “Dr. Franc Derganc” General Hospital council from 2001 to 2009, and from 2005 to 2009 was also a member of the board of trustees at the Electro Primorska d.d company.

As mayor he represents the municipality as well as the civil parish council by calling and chairing meetings, although he does not hold the right to vote. As well as this he also undertakes other duties, which are determined by the local self-government law and the Municipality of Šempeter-Vrtojba Statute.
